SEO audit software loves a monthly invoice. claude-seo skips the invoice. Rude of it, honestly.

It's a free, open-source add-on that runs SEO audits right inside Claude Code, and it has 22,974 stars on GitHub (as of Oct 28, 2026), which is a lot of people who also didn't want the invoice.

Let's install it. Fast, and without breaking anything.

Quick words (one line each):

  • Claude Code: Anthropic's AI assistant that runs in your terminal (the text window where you type commands).

  • Plugin: an add-on that gives Claude Code new commands.

  • Audit: a check-up of a website that lists what's broken and what to fix first.

  • MIT licence: a permission slip that lets you use and change the code, as long as you keep the copyright notice.

What it does

You type /seo commands and it checks a site for technical SEO, content quality, structured data (schema, the extra code that labels facts on a page), AI search readiness, and local SEO. The README says it's built from 26 sub-skills and 19 specialist agents. At the end you get a sorted fix list saved as files on your computer.

Step 1: Check the repo before you install anything

Do this with every GitHub tool, not just this one:

  1. Licence: MIT. Good.

  2. Last update: 2026-10-22. It's alive.

  3. Stars: 22,974 (as of Oct 28, 2026). Popular, which is not the same as safe, but it's a start.

  4. Privacy: its PRIVACY.md says the core makes no third-party API calls and has no telemetry (no secret phone-home). The pages it checks do go to Claude, the same as anything else you do in Claude Code.

Step 2: Make sure you have the basics

  • Claude Code version 1.0.33 or newer.

  • Python 3.11 to 3.14.

That's it. The setup step installs the rest, so you can put the credit card away.

Step 3: Install it (three commands)

Start Claude Code, then type these one at a time:

/plugin marketplace add AgriciDaniel/claude-seo
/plugin install claude-seo@agricidaniel-claude-seo
/seo setup

/seo setup builds its own private Python environment and a headless browser (a browser with no window, used for checking pages). It doesn't mess with the rest of your system.

Manual route: clone the repo, read install.sh (or install.ps1 on Windows), then run it. The README itself tells you to review the script first. Listen to it.

Step 4: Make sure it's alive

/seo doctor

This checks that everything is ready without changing anything. A pulse check, nothing more.

Step 5: Run your first check on ONE page

Start small. Don't order the whole buffet on day one. A full audit uses more of your Claude plan, because the README says five of its agents run on Anthropic's bigger Opus model.

/seo page https://yoursite.com/your-best-page

Then, when you like what you see:

/seo audit https://yoursite.com

Only point it at sites you own or have permission to check.

Step 6: Try the AI search check

/seo geo https://yoursite.com

The README says this scores how easy your pages are to quote, checks that AI crawlers (the robots that read sites for AI tools) can reach them, and looks at your brand's presence on Wikipedia, Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn.

There's also /seo schema for structured data and /seo local for local SEO and Google Business Profile.

Step 7: Read the results like a grown-up

  • The score is a to-do list, not a trophy. Nobody frames it. Fix the top items, then check them by hand.

  • Skip llms.txt by default. /seo agentic checks for llms.txt. Victorious says skip llms.txt by default and points to Google's John Mueller comparing it to the old keywords meta tag (31:12-32:44, Oct 1, 2026).

  • What we tested: we ran one of its helper scripts (content_quality.py) on a tiny local test page. It scored the page 72/100 and flagged it as thin content, which was fair, the page was tiny. We did not run the full /seo commands in our test.

Step 8: Know what it costs

  • The core plugin: free. No per-site pricing, no API key needed.

  • Your Claude plan: it runs on your Claude Code usage.

  • Free extras: you can connect free Google tools (Search Console, PageSpeed Insights, Analytics) with /seo google setup.

  • Optional paid add-ons: extensions for services like SE Ranking and Profound use your own paid accounts. The author also runs a paid community with a private version. You don't need any of it.

Do this today

  1. Check you have Claude Code 1.0.33+ and Python 3.11+.

  2. Run the three install commands, then /seo doctor.

  3. Run /seo page on your most important page.

  4. Write down the top 3 fixes it gives you and do one before lunch.
